PLEASE NOTE: There is a class/camp roster minimum in order for the session to run. Class times/days are subject to change. For this reason, you must include a back up class option at sign up in case your first option does not run or fills up.

SUMMER CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

MEISNER INTENSIVE
The work of legendary teacher Sanford Meisner has made an indelible impact on the craft of acting that is felt in every corner of today’s acting industry. For nearly twenty years this challenging intensive has been a staple of our school’s curriculum and has proven essential in our students’ training.  A true exercise in creative discovery, this technique provides a roadmap for students who truly want to explore the craft and find the vast and unlimited possibilities of their own creativity. Through unscripted exercises, students will learn how to craft and relate to situations they will encounter in scripts, communicate with their partners truthfully, and get in touch with their emotional life. This technique has proven, time and time again, to be a vital ingredient in the success of, not only our students past and present, but also many of the greatest actors the world has ever known. 

ACTING TECHNIQUE
This class offers a conservatory style curriculum and atmosphere with a primary focus on acting for television and film. Through exercises, scene study, and ensemble work students will explore the work of some of the most renowned teachers and their techniques.

ACTING TECHNIQUE FOR THE YOUNG ACTOR
This class offers a fun and challenging exploration of creativity. Through exercises, scene study, group work, and improvisation, the class will cover a wide array of modern acting techniques and styles for theater, film, and television.

SUMMER CAMP / INTENSIVE DESCRIPTIONS

MINI MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP (ages 5-8) **NEW this year!**
A camp for young performers who love to act, sing and dance. This camp will consist of fun theater games, singing, dancing and acting while creating an environment promoting self confidence, working as a team and more! The last day of camp there will be a short performance for family to enjoy.

AP INTENSIVE: Voice, Movement, & Acting (ages 12 and up)
This conservatory style intensive offers the highest level of training in voice, movement and acting, and is geared toward the most dedicated and tenacious acting students who want to immerse themselves in the craft.

MINI MISFITS CAMP (must be a member of the Mini Misfits)
A camp designed exclusively for cast members of our younger theatre company, Mini Misfits Camp will immerse our young actors in a fun-filled week of artistic exploration. Students will engage in advanced ensemble work, explore diverse acting techniques, and be on the ground floor in creating a new Mini Misfits production. The camp’s ultimate objective is to open up new roadmaps for our students’ creativity that will lead to artistic discovery.

MYSTERY WHODUNIT? CAMP (ages 10-16)
This fun and creative Whodunit Mystery theater program strengthens actors’ character work, confidence on stage, and improv ability, and culminates in a live interactive performance with family and friends in the audience. When everyone is a suspect (or a victim), anything can happen!

INDUSTRY INTENSIVE (ages 10-16)
Students will learn the ins-and-outs of professional industry auditions. The intensive will focus on self taping and getting recordings to use for professional auditions. We will also cover topics such as: headshots, agents, managers, castings, and where to find auditions. This is a masterclass on how to leverage and prepare to have the best possible audition.

MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP (ages 8-13)
Students will immerse themselves in all aspects of the modern musical. They will refine their vocal, dance and acting skills and create and perform a mini-musical on the last day of camp.

IMPROV CAMP (ages 10-15)
Join us for a fun filled week of second city style improvisation. Students will engage in a vast array of improv and sketch comedy culminating in a performance on the final day.

ACTING BOOT CAMP (ages 7-11)
Introduced at the Playground 18 years ago, this tried and true boot camp covers multiple styles of acting for theatre, film, and television and offers a vast array of teachers and techniques and is geared especially toward the young actor.

STRASBERG INTENSIVE (ages 12 and up) **NEW this year!**
An introduction to the work of Lee Strasberg, one of the founding fathers of American Acting and what he coined as ‘The Method.’ The Method, is a technique derived from Stanislavski’s System, which trains the imagination, concentration, and senses to create logical and truthful behavior on the stage, film, or television. This camp explores relaxation, sense memory, animal work and a number of other character exercises, developed by Lee Strasberg in his time as a co-founder of the Group Theatre. Strasberg would go on to teach these very techniques to his students: Al Pacino, Sally Field, Dustin Hoffman, Robert De Niro, and Marlon Brando just to name a few.
